The program "Foreign Language Teaching Methods" is unique in the Urals region. In the Russian Federation, few universities (in Moscow and St. Petersburg) offer training in this field. The education is conducted by practicing instructors with their own foreign languages teaching methodologies.

The program includes two foreign languages:

Experienced instructors, candidates of sciences, practicing translators, and native speakers teach the foreign languages.

Our students practice in educational institutions in Yekaterinburg and the surrounding region (schools, colleges) as well as in linguistic centers. Additionally, students actively participate in international conferences and workshops.

Modules of the program:

  1. First Foreign Language: Covers all aspects of learning a foreign language from theoretical foundations and structure to practical speaking and writing skills. It helps understand cultural contexts and language peculiarities of the countries where the language is spoken. Disciplines include: Linguistic and Cultural Studies, Basics of First Foreign Language Theory, Practice of Oral and Written Communication in the First Foreign Language, Practical Grammar, Practical Phonetics.

  2. Modern Pedagogical Language Education: This module provides a comprehensive study of methods and approaches to language teaching, introduces students to the basics of professional activities in language education, and develops an understanding of modern trends and teaching methods. Disciplines include: Introduction to the Specialty, Concepts of Modern Pedagogical Language Education, Basics of Linguistics, Russian Language and Speech Culture.

  3. Second Foreign Language: Covers all aspects of learning a second foreign language, including theoretical foundations, structure, practical speaking, and writing skills. It also helps understand cultural contexts and language peculiarities of the countries where the language is spoken. Disciplines include: Linguistic and Cultural Studies of the Second Foreign Language, Practice of Oral and Written Communication in the Second Foreign Language, Practical Phonetics of the Second Foreign Language.

  4. Methods and Technologies of Teaching Foreign Languages: This module covers contemporary approaches and tools necessary for effective teaching and learning of foreign languages, including lesson planning, adapting educational materials to students' needs, and provides a theoretical basis for understanding learning processes and developing educational programs. Disciplines include: Audiovisual Technologies for Language Teaching, Organization of Educational Process in Language Teaching, Basics of Theory and Methods of Language Teaching, Modern Means of Assessing Learning Outcomes in Language Teaching.

  5. Digitalization of Language Education: This module focuses on integrating modern technologies into the process of teaching and learning foreign languages. It includes the use of online platforms and applications for interactive learning, as well as the development of virtual classrooms and educational materials. Students study methods for organizing distance learning sessions and evaluating learning outcomes using digital technologies, aiming to create a more accessible and innovative educational environment.

  6. Project and Game-based Language Teaching Methods: This module aims to utilize active and interactive approaches for effective language skill acquisition. Students study methodologies that involve developing and implementing language projects, facilitating the practical application of acquired knowledge in real-life situations.

Career Opportunities: Graduates can work in educational institutions as teachers, methodologists, coaches; in enterprises involved in international economic activities as translators, analysts, reference specialists; as managers and moderators of intercultural projects; in professional teams handling international projects; as business communicators; in research organizations focusing on linguistics, language studies, translation, and theory and methods of teaching foreign languages; as researchers, developers of foreign language content, copywriters, and methodologists; and in social services and tourism as organizers of tour guide services and interpreters.
